One of the most preferred aesthetic applications in men is breast aesthetics, which is performed to correct female-like breast growths (gynecomastia) on the chest.

Breast enlargement due to various factors such as weight gain, hormonal imbalances or genetics can cause conditions such as lack of self-confidence and low self-esteem in men, and may negatively affect the social relations that a person establishes with his/her environment. A man with an enlarged breast tissue may avoid swimming in the pool and sea in the summer, and his sexual life may be adversely affected.

What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a benign enlargement of breast tissue in men. This condition is clinically defined by the presence of a hard mass spreading from the nipples to the deep and surrounding areas. Gynecomastia can affect one or both breasts in men. Generally, breast enlargement, which is caused by a disorder in the endocrine system, increases more with an increase in estrogen; however, the increase in breast tissue is usually not cancerous.

What Causes Breast Enlargement in Men?

• Transient gynecomastia seen in adolescence,
• Estrogen hormone being more than male hormone,
• Estrogen hormone acting like growth hormone,
• Drug use
• Kidney disease or liver problems
• HIV drugs, ulcer drugs or some antifungal drugs,
• Genetics (however such cases are extremely rare).

Gynecomastia Treatment

In the process of treating the problem of breast enlargement in men, first of all, the doctor will learn the patient's health history and perform a physical examination. In these evaluations, breast tissue, penis size, testicular development and masses will be evaluated. In addition, the presence of pubic hair and armpit hair will also be examined by your doctor. In addition to these, tests will be done about liver disease or kidney disease and the drugs used.

There are various treatment options for the treatment of gynecomastia. If there is a small enlargement of the breast tissue, this can be controlled with medication. In the case of chronic breast enlargement, surgical treatment may be required. In this case, the enlarged breast tissue will be surgically removed.

Gynecomastia Surgery

In men, the breast consists of a small amount of male breast tissue located under the nipple, as well as a soft fatty tissue. The proportion of fatty tissue varies from person to person. A man with gynecomastia may have more enlargement than normal in both breasts. This enlargement may be due to only lubrication or breast tissue growth, or both.

In the case of early-stage gynecomastia, liposuction surgery can remove excess adipose tissue. During this operation, a 3-4 mm incision is made, and excess fat tissue can be removed with metal thin pipes placed in the adipose tissue. In addition, excision, which means cutting the tissue in the area, can be applied to remove excess mammary gland tissue. This procedure leaves a small, non-permanent scar around the nipple under normal conditions.

If a major reduction in tissue and skin is required, the scars will be larger. In some cases, excision and liposuction can be applied together. After gynecomastia surgery, there may be bruising and swelling in the breasts. Usually, your doctor will recommend that you wear a special garment for 2-6 weeks to help reduce swelling.

It takes an average of 6 weeks for the patient to return to his normal routine after the surgery. In addition, complications related to surgical procedure after gynecomastia surgery are very rare. Sometimes, breast tissue may not be removed sufficiently, there may be distortions in the chest contour. In such cases, the process may need to be repeated and a new transaction to occur. If liposuction is used in the treatment of gynecomastia, it may take at least 6 months for the skin to take full shape.
